Is university overrated?

Is university overrated? Why do we go to university? To get a piece of paper which proves that you have finished your course. To fulfill your parents' desire. POSSIBLY gives you a higher position in a company (not guaranteed).......what else is there? There is actually not much to it.

Many students come out of university with a huge amount of debt. I don't know about others, but I really like learning, and I am always reading books or going to interest classes. Let me take learning a language as an example. I am a language person, I am always trying to learn more languages. Over the summer, I took Japanese classes and I actually enjoyed the process of studying. I learned a lot even through watching Japanese drama.  When I am studying things that I like in university or in school, like French, I still feel like I am studying for the sake of writing the exam, then I've quickly lost my interest in learning that language. In those interest classes, I learn, and I remember. In university, I memorize, write the exam, then I forget everything. I am in my 2nd year now, and I think I've never really learned anything.  Even if I go out into the workplace in the future, I am not going to use anything I have learned in university. So what's the point? I would rather learn something that I have an interest in, and remember it, rather than learning something that you will never use in your life after you graduate.

I really don't agree with people attending university. Unless they wanna become like a scientist, engineer or something professional. If you just wanna become a business person. Don't bother with university. Even people like Bill Gates, they dropped out of university. University is just a waste of time. University is just a result of peer pressure and social norms.
